Title
of Paper: Additional Explanations for Title
This example illustrates and explains the MLA
format we will use for history papers. First of
all, we
double-space all papers—no exceptions. Also,
for papers done in history class, do not create
a cover
page. If your name is clearly typed in the upper
left-hand corner, along with the teacher, class
period
and date, we do not need a cover page. Also make
certain that the paper’s title is centered
between the
heading and your introductory paragraph.
“Times New Roman” or similar looking
fonts are acceptable; however, if we decide to
go crazy with fonts
(i.e. “Old English Text”), the paper
will be returned and given a late grade as determined
by the amount
of time taken to resubmit the paper. In addition
to font style restrictions, we will not use a
font size
greater that 12, and the margins must be one inch
on all sides. If we stick to the given format
and style,
the teacher’s job becomes easier and we
will receive papers back much faster.
The “Work(s) Cited” page will be the
last page of your essay. To see how certain texts
should be
recorded in bibliographical format, go to a recent
copy of the MLA Handbook or go to
http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/research/r_mla.html#
Works-Cited, I expect you to figure this
out on your own.
Lastly, you will need to have on every page but
the first, your last name followed by the page
number,
starting with “2,” in the upper right
hand portion of the paper. If your computer is
too archaic to perform
this function, write your name and the number
by hand in BLACK ink. Most college professors
will also
expect you to know this, so learn it now!
